Peach Tree Pottery

The Linda & Morton Mechanic Scholarship Program is funded through small clay artworks called “Art Peaces”. All proceeds go towards the development of the “Get Centered” program. Art Peaces are available for a $5 donation. Each peace is hand crafted with a special message.

Get Centered” is an adjunct of Peach Tree Pottery which sponsors The Linda & Morton Mechanic Scholarship Fund and provides pottery classes for children and other individuals in need of extracurricular art activities in the community. In addition, Peach Tree Pottery reaches out to those in need over the winter holiday season.

During our annual Holiday Art Show & Sale we collect toys and monetary donations for local families in need. We also gather much needed items for L.A. Animal Shelters. Special thanks to everyone who brought a brand new unwrapped toy, made a monetary donation, and/or brought clean blankets, towels, pet toys, metal bowls, dog and cat food, etc. during the 2011 show & during past drives. Your response (as always) was incredibly generous.

The toys are delivered to various westside charities for distribution to families. Monetary donations are used to purchase gift cards, which are also distributed to families. Animal donation items are distributed to L.A. Animal Shelters. Here is a photo showing your amazing outpouring of generosity.

For 8 years Peach Tree Pottery provided pottery classes and personalized holiday giving to the children and families at Casa Libre.

Unfortunately, Casa Libre Supportive Housing Project in L.A. lost it's funding in August, 2009 as a 501(c) (3) organization. They were part of the Southern California Alcohol and Drug Programs, Inc., a non-profit organization established by community volunteers in 1972 to prevent and treat substance abuse and related problems, including homelessness, domestic abuse, long-term welfare dependence, learning challenges, school failure, gang involvement, and criminality. All of the SCADP services are based on ability to pay, and no one is refused services for financial reasons. We have been told that this facility will become an emergency housing program. Peach Tree Pottery hopes to continue to be involved with Case Libre in the years to come.

These photos were taken at Casa Libre during a Peach Tree Pottery sponsored Hair Cutting/Pottery day in Spring, 2009.

Lori Galindo of HEADQUARTERS Salon in Westchester, CA donated her styling services and time, as did Lori's friend Martin
(who kept the young men of Casa Libre stylin').

Special thanks to Linda Zimmerman for all of her amazing assistance.
